Multi-year grammar school admissions

An eight-year grammar school is a secondary programme entered after year 5, a six-year one after year 7. You apply via DiPSy like for other secondary schools, ranking the schools by priority, and sit the national entrance exam for multi-year programmes. Dates are national, set by the ministry.

How it works

  1. 1Pick grammar schoolsFrom year 5 you apply to eight-year grammar schools, from year 7 to six-year ones. The application is the same as for other secondary schools.
  2. 2Rank themThe order is binding. Put the school you want most first and a safer choice lower down.
  3. 3Sit the JPZCzech and maths tests for multi-year programmes, two attempts, the better result counts. The JPZ makes up at least 60% of the assessment.
  4. 4Results in DiPSyYou are admitted only to the highest priority where you succeed; lower ones lapse.

Rules worth knowing

  • The JPZ makes up at least 60% of the overall assessment. The head teacher may set a minimum score.
  • Schools publish criteria and the number of places 15 Jan – 31 Jan 2027. Last year’s criteria are only a guide.
  • There is no JPZ in round 2; round 1 results are used.
CERMAT statistics for grammar schools For each grammar school we show how many applied, how many were admitted and the lowest JPZ score admitted. It is not a cut-off: it depends on demand and priorities. We do not rank schools. Compare your score with them →
